The first day of working at a coworking space can feel a bit overwhelming. Where do I sit? Will people be nice to me? What can and can’t I do?
If you’ve never been to one before, it can be intimidating, even though coworking spaces are designed to be comfortable and foster creativity. It’s always nice to know a little bit about the space before arriving. Here’s a guide to help you feel more relaxed on your first day.
Where do I go when I arrive?
Once you get off the elevator, you’ll want to find the community manager. She’s usually sitting at the wooden desk by the brick wall.
Let the community manager know what you’re here for. Did you book a tour? Looking for a day pass? Have a meeting with someone? They’ll help you get started or point you in the right direction.
What is a community manager?
The community manager will be your go- to person for questions, concerns, and just general information.
They’ll help introduce you to members, give you the Wi-Fi password, and plan fun events for the members. Basically your BFF in the coworking space.
Where do I sit?
It can be a little scary your first time walking in and seeing all the desks. Where do you sit? Are you going to get a dirty look for sitting in someone’s spot like in college? We’ve got you covered.
- Hot Desks– This is the membership where you can really sit anywhere. There are no assigned seats and you can move every day if you want! These are also the spots to sit if you buy a day pass.
- Dedicated Desks- These desks are your own personal desks that no one else will sit at. They’re stand up/ sit down desks. You can leave for lunch and not worry about anyone taking your seat. You also get a filing cabinet to store your things!
- Private Offices– These are members’ own personal offices. These are the places you don’t want to go to take a phone call. These are reserved for specific memberships, but don’t worry- there are still places you can go for private phone calls (see phone booths section).
- Conference Rooms– These rooms are great for meetings, collaboration, interviews, and more! However, if you’re not a member, you’ll have to pay an additional fee to use them. If you are a member you’ll have to book the conference room through our app to keep track of how many of your allotted conference room hours you’ve used.
Is the coffee free?
You bet! Have as many cups as you want. Help yourself to any of the snacks that are out, too!
Can I use the printer?
Need a report printed? No problem. Members have access to unlimited black and white printing. If you’re not a member, just check with the community manager about your options.
Should I keep to myself or talk with others?
Totally up to you! If you need to hunker down and get lots of work done, we all understand. Keep in mind that coworking spaces are full of innovative and creative people who might be able to help you out with your work.
