More and more professionals are choosing to start their own businesses or work remotely. These career choices allow for more flexible scheduling and hours. Having the choice to work from home seems like a fantastic idea until productivity and work-life balance start to suffer.
“I just can’t, I guess, explain enough how important it is when you work by yourself to have an environment where you still interact with people…” – Becca Kroese, Skwintz
A coworking space solves these problems. There are several reasons professionals are becoming members of various coworking spaces around the world.
Less Distraction
A coworking space is a place to get work done. Being around others who are hard at work motivates others to focus. At home, one could easily be distracted with pets, kids, chores, television, or food in the kitchen fridge. Although most coworking spaces are dog-friendly and have plenty of snacks, productivity is increased when small distractions are eliminated.
Networking and Community
With member events and monthly meet-ups in the space, members are able to interact with each other and other professionals in the area to build connections. The ability to plug into the entrepreneurial ecosystem and meet people that are facing similar experiences can be extremely beneficial. Members at FUSE will host happy hours, “foodie” Fridays, and holiday celebrations at their own homes. Every Thursday everyone is invited for a happy hour after work somewhere in the Haymarket area.
Cost
When starting a new business it can be expensive as is. Coworking spaces help eliminate major costs an individual would face such as high-speed internet, wifi, furniture, cleaning, and printing. Everything is included in the membership for just one flat fee. FUSE members pay through our app and can conveniently set reoccurring payments.
Wellbeing
Working alone can lead to one feeling isolated. It is exciting to come to work when you can expect to be surrounded by other remote workers or solopreneurs. Being in a collaborative and welcoming environment is good for a person’s wellbeing. Office and dedicated desk members are equipped with standup-sitdown desks, which means one can easily move the desk up and down if they want to stand while working. This has been shown to help blood flow and boost productivity.
Collaboration
The members at coworking spaces are from different companies. This concept gives members the ability to get advice from or work with people from other industries with other skills and talents – all on the same floor! Members can send a message on our slack channel or go through the directory to find someone with particular expertise on something they need help with.
